It's a Jakarta Life
*Disclaimer* This post is tongue in cheek, written by me, and not an actual job listing for any particular school in Jakarta. It is, however, based on facts and my own observation of some amazing opportunities for teachers who may want to travel and teach in Indonesia.

Wanted: Maths Teacher
Are you a teacher who is frustrated with students unwilling and uninterested in learning?
Do you experience disrespect and lack of support from parents and students alike?
Are you struggling to keep your life clicking smoothly?
Maybe your gardener and your cooking staff are not getting along.
Are you unhappy that the tennis courts at your school have gone brown?
Maybe it’s time for a move!
Start your day in the morning with coffee and a breakfast freshly cooked by your cheerful and friendly chef. She can live in your home with you or arrive early in the morning to suit your needs. Turn your own children over to a loving and kind nanny who can make sure they are safe, happy, and even becoming bilingual while you are away at work, if you like.
Hop into your sport utility SUV or sedan purchased at prices commensurate or lower than prices in the US, and let your own personal driver wind you through Jakarta traffic anywhere you want to go. You will arrive at work feeling relaxed and refreshed. As you walk through the school grounds, you can enjoy a well manicured soccer field, the grass of five shaded tennis courts lined up in a row, and an olympic sized swimming pool - with touch pad sensors for race days. You will be greeted by friendly but serious security staff there to help everyone find their way and keep our students and teachers safe. Head to your classroom located in buildings of historic Jakarta architecture.
You will enjoy a day teaching a class of respectful, energetic students a challenging curriculum designed to be some of the most competitive in the world. At the end of the day, your personal driver will return to pick you up with a freshly washed and vacuumed vehicle, free of any toys, garbage, cheerio bits or other detritus typically present in the vehicle of those raising a gaggle of toddlers. He will shuttle you in comfort and air-conditioning anywhere you want to go - including to some of Jakarta’s world class dining and shopping areas. Then return to your home, that has been mopped, dusted, cleansed and tidied by your daily maid service. That evening, sit down at a table to a full meal prepared for your family by your chef.
There are many housing options, but many of our teachers choose to live in single family homes anywhere between 2,000 and 4,000 square feet (200 - 400 square meters) located in a fully gated and guarded community with two swimming pools, large green open space, multiple playgrounds for the kids, racketball courts, yoga studios, gym and even an onsite restaurant, bar, and convenience store to pick up any quick items you might be craving. Uber Eats and Gojek are available to deliver anything from the city you might need, including Dominos pizza if that is what you are missing. Just download the app, punch in your request and a driver will let you know when it will be ready and delivered.
On the weekends, drive to the far reaches of the island of Java to explore jungles, hike volcanoes, relax on the beach, or witness Indonesia’s rich culture. Drink the best coffee in the world. Take a quick flight to Bali, Island of the Gods to experience world class resorts, white sand beaches, stunning waterfalls, or the spiritual meditation and yoga retreats of Ubud. Or if you are in for underwater adventures, hop a different quick flight to Komodo for to visit with prehistoric dragons and some of the best scuba diving trips in the entire world.
Salaries are typically pain in a portion of the local currency and another portion in the currency of your choice (US dollars, Euros, Pounds, depending on your nationality). The school will pay the cost of flying your family home to visit your country of origin once per year at the typical cost for airline tickets home. International health insurance for the teacher, teacher’s spouse, and up to two children are fully covered, and partially covered if your family includes more than two children. In addition, tuition at the school for up to two children is paid. Again, if your family includes more than two children, some portion of the school tuition can be paid.
